Update 3/16 Message From Fr. Shields

March 16, 2020

Dear Friends:

Each day, we pray the prayer which Jesus taught us, concluding with this petition: "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" Certainly these words have special meaning for us now as we as a nation seek to address the challenge of COVID-19, the new virus threatening our population.

Here at St. Ignatius, we want to do our part to cooperate with measures designed to prevent the spread of this virus. As you know, our school will close on Wednesday, March 18, at 12 noon, and Mrs. Miller has sent out information to parents regarding plans for continued instruction during the term of this closure. As a parish, we are following the guidelines issued by Archbishop Rodi for the celebration of the liturgy. All masses will continue as regularly scheduled -please see our website for the protocol being followed for participation in mass. Please note also that the Archbishop has dispensed any Catholics who are concerned for their health from the obligation to attend mass on Sundays.

We have also reviewed all parish activities other than mass to determine which ones should be cancelled. While we do not wish to shut down parish life, we want to err on the side of caution, and avoid any gatherings which may endanger the health of the community. Following this letter is a list of parish meetings which will be cancelled, as well as those which will continue as scheduled.

During this national effort to prevent the spread of the corona virus, let us pray for our nation, and for people throughout the world, that we may be spared from suffering and death. Let us pray also for relief and aid for those suffering from the effects of the isolation and idleness resulting from the closures being observed. Each day at mass, we will continue to pray the Divine Praises, with the special intention of protection from the corona virus and all other diseases. I would ask that each parishioner also pray daily that perfect prayer our Lord bequeathed to us, concluding with the fervent petition that the Lord would deliver us from every evil.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Bry Shields
